'I am for / against free public transportation. That is why I am majoring in Business Administration at the University of Twente'. This is one of the statements that belong to the Business Administration programme campaign developed by communication agency Vandejong.
The statements are designed to provoke young people and show
that the University of Twente has more to offer than science
and technology. The statement about free public transport was
supposed to appear in huge letters on a Connexxion bus.
Unfortunately, Connexxion felt differently.
Both the University of Twente and Vandejong were completely
taken aback when the advertisement was refused. The reason
provided by CBS Outdoor, the company responsible for Connexxion
bus advertising, was that bus advertisements concerning
sensitive topics are prohibited. The envisioned bus has been
sidelined indefinitely. However, regional media picked up the
story and the bus design made the papers and radio and TV in
spite of the ban.
Other statements in the campaign include: 'I am for / against
compulsory ID cards' and 'I am for / against 16 as the legal
drinking age'. The campaign is part of the umbrella 2007
Bachelor campaign: 'I am, therefore I think, therefore I study
at the University of Twente'. Vandejong developed the Bachelor
campaign in order to attract students that fit in the with the
University of Twente's enterprising spirit. The Business
Administration campaign was launched last week and has already
proven successful: registrations for the orientation days are
arriving by the dozen.
