Foam Public Space

Outdoor exhibits for Foam since 2002

Photography outdoors

Every day, each and every one of us is confronted with photographic images in public places. In most cases, these images convey a commercial message. Vandejong searches public places to find a spot where the poetry and power of autonomous images can be put on display for a wide audience.

During 'Foam in het Vondelpark' (2002), the entire Vondelpark was transformed into an exhibition space. Vandejong invited a large group of professional and amateur photographers to submit their ‘most beautiful photo’. The 150 fairest photos of them all are displayed on lampposts throughout the park.

Foam Oase (2004) offers young, recent photography graduates the opportunity to portray their own personal oasis. The chosen photos are displayed on huge billboards in the Vondelpark, effectively creating an oasis of visual art.

The pupils at the Johannesschool in Osdorp supply the material for the Foam in Osdorp (2006) exhibition. They make self portraits and chronicle their lives with the ultimate goal of beautifying and improving their neighbourhood, and making it more fun, too. The project enables the children to see what photography has to offer, and puts Foam in the midst of society in Amsterdam.
