Foam and Vandejong publish magazine

Press release 7 September 2006

From December 2006 onwards, Foam_magazine is back in shops. In the wake of publisher Artimo going bankrupt in May 2005, the magazine’s original founders Foam_Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam and communication agency Vandejong are now publishing the international photography magazine on their own. The first edition of the new Foam_magazine will be presented in Paris in November 2006 during Paris Photo.

Given the magazine’s international acclaim, positive reviews from the professional sector and an array of awards, Foam and Vandejong believe that the cutting edge publication has growing potential. In the new embodiment, the magazine will be in the market across a broad international spectrum. Foam_magazine will retain its distinctive personality; namely, the magazine as an exhibition space. Each edition centres around a particular theme interpreted by different photographers, each with his or her work and style, using an extensive portfolio. This leads to surprising combinations that make the magazine a timeless collectible, partly on account of the singular design and high quality printed material.

Foam_magazine is therefore not about photography; it is photography.  The magazine shows photography in all of its incarnations. This will be elaborated on in greater depth in the new edition. There is also more room for news and current topics in photography. Foam_magazine will be published at the start of each season.

Up until now, eight issues of Foam_magazine have been published. The first issue, ‘Dutch Delight’, is already a collector’s item. Other issues featured the themes ‘Near’, ‘Sport’, ‘Self’ and the last issue #8: ‘Sidewalk’. Foam_magazine continues to receive international attention a year after the last issue appeared. Foam_magazine is currently on exhibit at the Visionaire Gallery in New York as one of the ‘best of contemporary independent publishing’ (through 3 November 2006).

Foam_magazine was awarded an ADCN Zilveren Lamp (2004) and a ‘distinctive merit’ from the New York Art Directors Club (2005).
