Vandejong and Ranj win Cinekid New Media Award

Last week, Vandejong and Ranj were awarded the Cinekid Jury Award for De Orde van GIS (the History Is Exciting Order, or HIE Order), the alternate reality game that helps kids become aware about history. The combination of reality, fiction and historical facts makes playing the game an exciting and educational experience.

Vandejong developed the HIE Order cross-media campaign at the request of and in cooperation with Anno, the history brand. The campaign focuses on a top secret order. A holiday activity book chronicles the four founding members of the order as they embark on all sorts of thrilling adventures at historical locations in southern Netherlands. Together with Ranj, Vandejong developed the game www.ordevangis.nl. Here, after completing a rigorous application procedure, kids can join the order to join them in solving a mystery.

Real life and virtual reality overlap in the game. Kids receive e-mails with assignments from the HIE Order and use the Internet to search for historical facts. Consequently, the game takes several days, and the player never knows when the adventure will continue. The jury found the excitement extremely realistic, and was also highly impressed by the design of the game.

For communication agency Vandejong, winning the Cinekid New Media Award serves as encouragement to continue the pursuit of applying methods of communication in clever and innovative ways in order to reach new target groups.
